What Does An A/C Button In A Car Exactly Do?

Car Air Conditioning Recharge

Most people assumed that the A/C button is used for cooling down the car and can only be used in summers. And people would all be wrong. A/C button can be used in summers as well as winters. Whether you want to heat up or cool down your car, using the A/C button is safe.

What does the A/C button do?

The A/C button on the dashboard of the car activates the conditioning system of the vehicle. This system uses an engine-driven compressor. The compressor is operated by a clutch and cools the air coming out of the ventilation system. It works like a refrigerator. According to the Car Air Conditioning Recharge, the cars that have a manual air conditioning system, A/C button is either on or off and you can control the temperature using heating controls, according to your preference to obtain a comfortable temperature. In modern vehicles, it has an automatic control system, that will maintain the temperature once you set the temperature according to your desire.

The secondary function is to dehumidify incoming air. By cooling incoming air, moisture air condensed out and dry the moist air. The heating system can warm up the air again to dry the moisture on the window. This effect is suitable in winters.

Re-circulation and Fresh air buttons

Re-Circulation mode

Re-circulation mode works by taking the outside air into the car and running it back through the air conditioning system of your car. As compare to cooling down fresh air, re-circulating cool air is much easier for your vehicle. It constantly circulates the cool air giving you nice cooling. Re-circulation mode is best in warm weather, when cooling down the car is important and you don’t want to wait outside for your car to cool down.

Fresh Air mode

Fresh air mode is suitable for winters when windows get foggy because of humidity and recirculation mode does not work to remove humidity. Fresh air mode involves the addition of outside fresh air into the vehicle, that will match with the humidity level of air inside the car. This process will defog the windows. This mode is the best option whenever your car gets fogged up. While defogging, don’t forget to turn on the A/C button. This button helps in pulling the humidity from the inside of the car.

This mode is used in summers as well. It simply extracts the hot air from your car quickly and forces the outside air into the car. Switch the setting to re-circulation mode right after the car starts to cool off. This will make the cooling process faster.

Therefore, the A/C button does not only work as an on or off button for your vehicle’s air conditioning system and does more than that. However, it depends on the system of the vehicle. In old vehicles, the function of the A/C button was to activate or deactivate the air conditioning system only. In modern cars, this system maintains the temperature according to your need.
