Why is MOT Testing Necessary?

 

To drive a car which hasn’t passed the vehicle roadability test would be harmful. MOT testing helps in declaring a vehicle with legal roadworthiness. What is MOT?

In 1960, on 12 September, the government, after noticing an alarming increase of vehicles on roads, introduced MOT testing. Moreover, if you are a UK citizen, you might be heavily charged if you don’t have an MOT certificate while driving. 

Time Required for an MOT Test

It’s encouraged to go for an MOT test after buying your brand-new car. It doesn’t take too long for MOT testing, you just have to visit the MOT testing centre, get yourself registered and give the MOT test for about 45-60 minutes. It might take longer to repair if your vehicle fails the MOT test. It’s always advisable to get your car checked thoroughly prior to the MOT test. 

Checklist for MOT Testing

Here is an MOT checklist, you can test your car parts before going for MOT testing.

1. The engine, gearbox, the clutch isn’t covered or tested in the MOT test.
2. Towbars should be in good and secure condition as they are inspected. 
3. The fuel cap fastens and seals securely and the pipes are secure and in good condition. The fuel system will be inspected to check there are no leaks.
4. The wheels and tyres size, type, tread depth, security, and condition are mostly inspected.
5. The car is inspected to examine its exhaust emissions, and a vehicle meets its rules.
